On October, 26th 2011, Microsoft released Office for Mac 2011 (exciting right?!). There are many different types of Office for Mac, one to cater to everybody’s wants and needs, whether it be in the home, office or business. Office for Mac 2011 is available in thirteen different languages, including Dutch, English, Danish, Finnish, French, German Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Swedish, Japanese, Polish and Russian. You get the option of which language you want to download.
There is the Office 365 Home Premium which can be used on up to 5 different Macs. The cost this program is $99.99 a year or $9.99 a month (weird, I know). The Office 365 Home Premium includes everything you could possibly dream of for your office needs including: Skype 60 minutes/ month wide calling and extra 20 GB of online storage in SkyDrive. With Office 365 you are always entitled to the newest versions of the Office applications whenever they are available. With the Skype World Calling application you get 60 free minutes a month with the ability to call over 40 countries. You can use Skype world minutes where you have Skype installed, whether it is your mobile phone, tablet, TV, or other device. Can’t forget to mention that it also includes Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook!
The second type of Office for Mac is Office for Mac Home & Business. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that program is recommended for home and business use. This program can only be used on one Mac computer. It will start retailing at $199. This program is available in two editions. For $199 you can get the single install edition (for one Mac only, hints the word SINGLE, imagine that!), or for $279 you can get the multi-pack edition. The multi-pack edition comes with the ability to be installed on two Mac computers. This type of Office for Mac only includes Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook email.
Drum roll for the third type of Office for Mac, it is called Office for Mac Home and Student. I bet you can guess what this program is used for! There are also two available editions of this program. There is the single install (there is that “SINGLE” word again, I bet you can guess what that means!) for $119. Then there is the Family Pack which comes with three installs which sells for $149. With this program, the user would only have the capability to use Word, Excel, and Power Point. This would be perfect for anybody in school considering that the word “student” is in the name of the program.
The fourth type of Office for Mac is called Microsoft Office for Mac Academic 2011. This programs retail price is $99. This program includes Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook and Messenger for Mac. It is only able to be installed on one Mac computer. It will only be sold at authorized academic stores, as it is a special edition created for higher education student, staff and faculty. The user must qualify to purchase this specific program.
Also, there is Office 365 University. The suggested retail price for this program is $79.99. This is a great deal considering you get a four year subscription to this program and access to full Office programs on two Macs or select mobile devices. Just like the Office for Mac Academic 2011, this program was exclusively designed for eligible higher education students, faculty and staff. Just like Office for Mac Academic 2011, the user must qualify to purchase this program.
At no additional cost, if a customer has already purchased Office for Mac 2008, they will be able to upgrade to Office for Mac 2011 through the Microsoft Office for Mac Technology Guarantee Program. Whoot whoot! You can also purchase Office for Mac programs from a third party vendor, such as Amazon.com. For all you money savers out there, you might be able to find it a little cheaper than you would if you purchased it from a retail store such a Best Buy.
Microsoft is committed to their customers and partner and has a passion for technology. I think it would be safe to say that Microsoft strives to make people’s lives easier when it comes to using technology (Yay for Microsoft!!). As you can see, there are many different types of Office for Mac. There is one designed to cater to everybody’s specific wants and needs. It is just up to you to figure out which one are right for you and/or your families, because sharing is caring people! Now that you know all the different Office for Mac programs and their pricing, go out there and get the one that is right for you and/or your families, business, or office!
